SJB Awards
Half Term Principal's Awards
These special awards are awarded each half term to children who live out the vision of our school and make positive contributions to our school life. Special whole school assemblies are called so that the children are celebrated in front of their peers, with a particular emphasis placed upon explaining the reasons why each child has received the award.
Pupil of the Week Awards
A weekly award is given to a pupil in each class who has worked well and been a good friend and listener in class. In Foundation classes, a boy and a girl will receive this reward each week.
Accelerated Reader/Freckle
We are passionate in St John the Baptist PS about promoting a culture and love of reading, and this is apparent in our focus on encouraging independent reading, in school and at home. We have a range of awards and incentives that keep the children and parents engaged, including regular weekly class awards, whole school assemblies and the much-cherished Word Millionaire t-shirt and badge.
The school is renowned for the manner in which Accelerated Maths (now called Freckle) has been incorporated as a part of delivering the Numeracy curriculum from P4-P7, using the programme to consolidate children's understanding of key concepts. Children successfully mastering 200 objectives throughout the year receive a special '200 Club' pencil case, whilst class winners in both Accelerated Reader and Freckle get the opportunity each week to try their hand at breaking the Lockabox code and winning the £50 Smyth's voucher inside!
