P.7 Pupils visit Fruithill Fold

16th Jun 2019

On Friday 14th June a group of our P.7 pupils were invited to Fruithill fold to see the tapestry they had been working on with residents as part of the Intergen project.

The Intergen Project was a great experience for our P.7 pupils to work with and get to know the elderly residents from Fruithill Fold.
The theme of the project was, the local history of West Belfast and Andersonstown, family histories and personal histories of both the children and the Fruithill residents.

Each child and member of the fold completed a small section of tapestry which represented their own personal history. Charlie, our artist, worked with the children and the Fruithill residents to teach the children how to embroider.

All the individual tapestries were put together and the end result was this beautiful wall hanging.
This was a valuable learning experience and a great opportunity to develop intergenerational relationships between our children and the elderly residents. The children gained so much from this experience, sharing stories and experiences as well as having great craic and making new friends!

The project is testimony to the value of community groups working together to the benefit of all involved.
It was a great learning experience for us as a school to work with Fruithill Fold, community officers from Woodburn, Belfast City Council, the PCSP and a community artist. We certainly hope to develop these links and work together on projects like the Intergen project in the future.

We all had a lovely morning meeting up with our friends from Fruithill Fold again on Friday.
